Eva's Baires

Yes, that's one of the accepted nicknames for the place, Baires. Not the Big Apple, or La Manzana Grande or whatever.

Anyway, thought I'd take some photos to inspire you. Yes, I know, they're the same pictures you'd see in any postcard rack of Buenos Aires, but don't you feel more connected knowing that you're just one bald man away from the scene?

The Casa Rosada is about a 20-minute walk from my place. (By the way, you should be able to enlarge these photos by clicking on them.)

So here's where you lived. Maybe the palm trees surprise you. They always surprise me when I get back here.

I imagine there were pigeons when you lived here, too.

I don't know which balcony you used to address the crowds, but I'm guessing it was this one.

Or maybe one of these for more intimate addresses.

And this is my best attempt at what you'd have seen from your balcony. They wouldn't let me onto the actual balcony, so I had to just take it from ground level, but you get the idea. You're looking across the plaza at the Cabildo. The statue is of San Martin, the founder of Argentina. Of course, you have to erase all of those modern buildings.

The Cabildo is an important state building, the oldest on the plaza. All sorts of key events happened there.

You probably saw a lot of fellows in these quite bright uniforms. Whether or not you tried to make them crack up I leave to your actress's instincts.

And here's where you used to buy your souvenir lapel pins.
